Elles Publishing House hosted a poetry night with Egyptian poet Alaa Fouda, introduced by writer Ragaa’i Moussa, in a gathering that brought together poetry and writing enthusiasts and offered a space to hear about the poet’s experience and listen to selections from her work.
During the evening, Alaa Fouda read a selection of her poems and shared with attendees insights into her poetic journey, which spans several poetry collections and literary engagements in Egypt and abroad.
Her first poetry collection received the Akhbar El Adab Award in Egypt in 2018. She later published Baha in a Wolf’s Howl with the General Egyptian Book Organization in 2021, followed by A Birthmark Above the Womb, published by Almutawassit in Milan in 2023. Her collection Amputating My Branch from the Family Tree was also published by Almutawassit.
Fouda has taken part in a number of poetry events and festivals, including an event at the Arab World Institute in Paris in 2018, the Spring of Poetry celebration on Monte Carlo Doualiya, and the International Festival of Young Poets in China. Her work has also appeared in an anthology of Arab poets translated into Spanish, as well as in a number of Egyptian and Arab literary journals.
