About Us

Honna/Elles was founded in May 2017, it’s the first feminist publishing house in Arabic speaking belt in the MENA and Africa regions.

Honna/Elles is working to challenge the patriarchal dominance over the industry of publishing at both the national and the regional levels.

We aspire to become a platform and a center for spreading, and producing, a culture of gender equality that abolishes all forms of discrimination, be it on the basis of religion, gender, ethnicity… etc.

We work to create such discourse by publishing feminist works and conducting workshops that correspond to our vision and mission. Feminist trainings and workshops are our core program, we conduct numerous activities such as transformative, decolonize and  feminist pedagogy training, feminist translation, writing for healing, and encouraging discussions on collaboration with the feminist movements in Egypt, and the Arabic speaking belt in Africa, and (MENA) regions.

We also provide a safe space for women and feminist writers to meet, read, present their work, hold discussions, and listen to one another, dance and laugh.

It also works on combating sexual and gender-based violence and empowering women to break the silence, support one another to heal and stand up to patriarchal gender norms that reinforce and reproduce violence against women in Egypt, and we are trying to reach out to women in the MENA and other Arabic specking counties in Africa.

Honna/Elles’s Vision

“We envision and dream of a classless society, in which power and wealth belong to everyone, and from which all forms of injustice, marginalization, and violence disappear”.

Our Mission

“Honna/Elles” is an autonomous feminist publishing house, seeks to produce feminist knowledge based on women’s daily lives by revealing the hidden forms of marginalization and discrimination that women face on a daily life, to crystallize forms of resistance Honna/Elles seeks to break (patriarchal norms) the visible and invisible restrictions that affect the dreams, desires, and lives of women.

This is done using the approach of intersectionality, training workshops, feminist translation, writing for healing, storytelling, printing, and publishing.

Our Objectives

      1. To build mechanisms for everyday resistance for women by:

        • Unveiling the dynamics of everyday power and how they operate in women’s lives and in their self-perception.

        • Empowering women to challenge these power dynamics and assert their agency.

        • Creating a supportive environment where women can share their experiences and learn from each other.

      2. To produce and publish feminist knowledge using different innovative tools,

      3. To expand our network to include the feminist groups in the Arabic-speaking belt at MENA and Africa regions.

We believe that everyday resistance is a crucial tool for women to achieve their full potential. By challenging the power dynamics that oppress them, women can create a more just and equitable world for themselves.
