The First Feminist and Independent Publishing Conference, held on May 1–2, 2026 at Elles Publishing House in Cairo, has successfully concluded, bringing together a diverse group of writers, publishers, researchers, and those engaged in the publishing industry.
Over the course of two days, the conference featured a range of sessions and discussions addressing key issues in independent and feminist publishing, including the history of independent publishing, the economics of the publishing industry, and the role of archives and memory, alongside presentations of experiences and testimonies from practice.
The conference also provided a space for exchanging knowledge and raising questions around market challenges, ways to reach readers, and the potential for developing various forms of publishing, including digital and audio publishing.
This conference comes as part of ongoing efforts to support independent and feminist publishing, and to open spaces for dialogue around its realities, challenges, and future possibilities.
