Elles Publishing House is looking for a facilitator to join the Feminist Translation Workshop.
We are looking for a facilitator who has:
- Experience in facilitating group discussions and managing dialogue.
- Knowledge of translation schools, especially feminist translation.
- The ability to create a safe, participatory space for dialogue and collective learning.
- The ability to work with a team of facilitators, editors, and the Hun team.
The workshop is based on collaborative, collective translation, and aims to create a space for reflection and discussion around feminist texts, translation concepts, and the production of knowledge in Arabic.
The workshop will be held approximately eight times (in addition to preparatory meetings). Sessions will take place on Fridays, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The first sessions are expected to begin in June.

About the Feminist Translation Workshop
The Feminist Translation Workshop at Hun was launched in 2022 and was co-founded by Nermin Nizar and Hussein Al-Hajj. Its first outcome was the book “Black Feminism,” followed by several translations, reaching four books over four years.
It is considered the first initiative of its kind to transform feminist translation into a collective, participatory practice aimed at producing feminist knowledge in Arabic.
Feminist translation is a relatively recent concept that emerged in the 1990s. It does not refer only to translating feminist texts, but more broadly to maintaining feminist awareness throughout the translation process in relation to the author, the text, and characters in literary works, for example.
Foundational works in this field include Gender in Translation by Sherry Simon (1996) and Translation and Gender by Luise von Flotow (1997). Feminist translation seeks to actively interpret the text, engaging with it as a dynamic act rather than a neutral transfer.
Workshop Objectives
- Working collectively through participatory learning to produce feminist theoretical texts in Arabic.
- Developing participants’ ability to engage linguistically with complex theoretical texts using all available linguistic tools, both formal and colloquial.
- Producing a book of collective translation works.
